Sailing Holidays French Riviera: It’s good to be back!

May 3, 2013

Finally the sun is shining – it’s taken a couple of days of storms, some very strong wind, a bit of bouncing around in a marina and lots of chrome cleaning but with the 1st of May came the lovely sunshine that the French Riviera is famous for.

My sister Hannah, brother in law Sean and their children are staying in Port Grimaud for a couple of weeks and it’s fabulous to get to see them for a bit each day. Maurice is looking forward to the chance to sleep on the boat for a night, Hannah is looking forward to St Tropez and Beatrix is searching out all the pink ice cream in the vicinity! Poor Sean just gets to pay for it all!!

After a yummy breakfast of croissants and pain au chocolat Hannah and I left the men to it with the children and went for a run along to St Raphael from Frejus. Although it’s not too far, it was already getting hot and by the end we were both melting! We took a picnic to the beach and the banana and orange cake went down well – I think it was the chocolate bits! Check out the recipe here.

IMG_2708We’ve got two more nights in Port Frejus and then we’re off to anchor to save the pennies. We’ll probably head to the Golfe de St Tropez as it’s out of the swell and close to our favourite places as well as a couple of good ports in case of bad weather. Tomorrow is a day for hull cleaning and shouting at Raymarine – interestingly I sent a strongly worded email to them not expecting a reply and I have received a phone call in return! We’ll see how far we get but I’m not expecting miracles!
