500 miles

April 27, 2013

Saturday 27th April
We’ve finally landed on the Riviera! After a combination of motoring and sailing as well as a couple of cracking sails, watching the wind and dodging the waves, we’ve made it safely to St Tropez! Check out the video of our trip on YouTube

We’ve seen dolphins and a whale, a beautiful sunrise somewhere in the Golfe de Lion, and sampled ice cream in every port! It was rude not to when we pulled up right outside the ice cream parlour in La Ciotat!

It’s not been the warmest and we’ve had some heavy rain – luckily overnight in ports – but the sun has shown itself and I now have the obligatory sailor’s ‘panda eyes’.

Phil was the hero of the trip. About 4 hours out of Barcelona, we suddenly lost all drive in the engine. We stopped and he donned wetsuit and flippers and dived down to discover we’d picked up a huge piece of plastic round the prop! 40 minutes later and he’d managed to cut it all off and we were free and on our way again.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

So now we’re off to market, then a quick sail to St Raphael to drop off our fabulous crew and then whilst we dodge the rather nasty weather coming our way this weekend, we’ll be getting our big clean done, fixing a blocked loo and shouting a lot at Raymarine as our navigation system is kaput again!
