Ciao, bella Italia

June 30, 2012

Saturday 30th June
We’ve had a fabulous week. Having cleaned and tidied all weekend in Genoa we treated ourselves on Sunday night to a drink in a nice bar whilst the Italians beat the English at football! After an uneventful 90minutes we went back to the boat to watch the rest. Although the English got beaten, the Italians certainly know how to celebrate and we were treated to a 20 minute firework display off the back of the boat!!

The next day we moved a little way up the coast to Savona, ducked under the bridge and spent the night in a lovely quiet marina! On Tuesday we were up early and on the train to Pisa. Having never seen the tower we decided that as it was only a couple of hours by train we’d better visit it before it fell over! It’s true, it really is leaning!!

After a lovely lunch, visit to the cathedral, dinner and of course some souvenir shopping we had a delicious dinner and headed to our room for the night. Wednesday saw us on another train heading to Florence, just an hour away. We had a lovely day exploring the old town, crossing the Ponte Vecchio, eating horrendously expensive ice cream and we even managed a trip to the Uffizi.

Once back in Savona we did a quick shop and got the first bridge opening of the day on Friday. Our aim was to get to San Remo but the sea was so flat we motored all the way to Monaco and anchored up for the night. On the way Phil managed to make some chocolate fairy cakes which, considering it was too rolly for scales, came out very well!

We’re now in Port Fontvieille, Monaco for the night to meet some potential guests and will then be on our way again to anchor up somewhere out of the swell.
