On the road again

February 11, 2012

Saturday 11th February

The boat is clean and shiny inside and out, the cabins are all made up, dinner is prepared, all we need now are the guests who are hopefully in the air!

We’ve had a car for the past three days and have made the most of it by exploring new areas and re-visiting old favourites. First stop was Humboldt’s viewing station in La Orotava for coffee and churros. Even though it was raining and we looked like hopeless tourists in our shorts and t-shirts (it was sunny when we left the boat!) it was still an amazing coffee and churros!

Next was La Laguna, a place I’ve heard about but not been to. The sun was trying it’s best and the town was pretty interesting. We didn’t really have time to stop in all the museums and we couldn’t get in the cathedral without a ticket but we did see proof of Tenerife’s eternal Spring in all the daffodils that were in full flower all around the town!

Also in the town were a number of wedding dress shops that also sold first communion outfits. With Easter coming up and being a Catholic country, there were a lot if outfits available – almost more choice than the wedding dresses!

The next day we went to check out the new marina that’s being built in Garachico. It was pretty rough all around and only someone with guts would attempt the entrance but inside the new wall was calm and flat! Not much evidence of anything other than a wall yet, but I’m sure that in Canary time, it’ll be finished and a good harbour. The town is certainly worth a visit and it’s not far from Puerto de la Cruz. We stopped here for a simple lunch of tuna, potatoes and bread, a quick walk around, a look in the Tenerife Pearl shop, (I only liked the 600Euro+ pearls so I didn’t get any!) and then it was back to the boat.

We’ve had a great few days exploring but I’m still waiting for that snow! Maybe this week’s the week?!
