A Fabulous Weekend

December 11, 2011

Sunday 11th December

2 weeks until Christmas!! The guests this weekend have enjoyed all sorts of Tenerife’s delights. Having arrived on Thursday evening and enjoyed dinner on board (baked scallops; Toledo spiced rabbit; Lemon tart) we set sail on Saturday morning. It was a good day for a sail and we were hoping to see some whales too.

After a good sail to Punta Rasca the wind dropped and we tootled around about a mile offshore of Los Cristianos and we found the whales! They’ve never let us down yet! We then anchored in beautiful clear waters for lunch and the men did some fishing-3 tiddlers later we had caught more than a whole season in the Med!

We picked up an afternoon breeze and had a lovely sail to Las Galletas where we moored for the night.

Saturday arrived and expectations were high.

The men all went off fishing on a proper fishing boat leaving behind promises of dinner for the next week on their return! The ladies went off shopping and all too soon the men were back! Apparently it was so big that they couldn’t reel it in and it got away- so no dinner for us! Lucky I had pre-empted this and had a lovely lunch ready over which we heard all the stories!

Dinner on board that night (butternut squash and ginger soup; chicken and seafood paella; whiskey bananas with pomegranate ice cream) and a few games of a dice game that I didn’t really understand but I know there was a lot of cheating going on from one person!!

This morning we woke to a beautifully sheltered marina but it was a different story outside! We nosed out and put 2reefs in the main and 3 in the jib. We were nicely balanced and not too tipped up in the gusts and were belting upwind in 20 knots of breeze. Eventually though the wind increased and we were forced into our marina for lunch.

The guests are currently sleeping off the excitement of this morning and are then off for a round if pitch and putt before visiting the ‘Volcanic Islands’ restaurant for dinner tonight and flying home tomorrow. A fabulous weekend.
