Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge

December 6, 2011

Tuesday 6th December

Yesterday saw the start of the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, ‘The World’s Toughest Rowing Race’.

John and his team-mate Barney got off to a flying start at 1205. They were bang on the start line and gave everyone a surprise! They managed to hold their lead into the evening but looking this morning they seem to have doubled back on themselves and turned again for Barbados! Who knows what’s going on onboard!

We returned to harbour after following them for a while and had a quick lunch before setting out for Tenerife. I’m glad we came back yesterday in the relative calm of 20knots as today we’re back up to the more usual 32!!

Having arrived in the dark at 1945 we quickly tied up and made for the German restaurant Volcanic Islands where the boys (my cousin Ian was with us) had a mixed grill for 2 (although it probably would have fed 10) and I had fish and Tiramisu.

We’ve washed the boat and made it clean and shiny again and tomorrow we’ll be off shopping for the food for the weekend for our first Tenerife guests. We’ll be enjoying champagne sangria to celebrate a 10th wedding anniversary, possibly some windy sailing and the men are off big fish fishing!! Of course there’ll be some very nice restaurants included!

Apart from a leaky water strainer we’re all good and looking forward to our first Christmas onboard-I’m sure it won’t be long before the snow arrives on Teide and we feel the need for Christmas songs and decorations!

Adios
